CHERRY

Cherry (Prunus avium), in the Rosaceae family. Fruit tree that is indigenous in Giresun, Southern Caucuses, Caspian Sea and Northeastern Anatolia. Because of the very different physical conditions prevailing in Turkey, differences of up to 1.5 months can be observed between regions in terms of the ripening of cherries. Yield and quality has been increasing in cherries along with the utilization of modern agricultural methods. The highest quality cherries in Turkey are grown in the northern slopes of the Toros Mountains, at the town of Korualan located at the source of the Göksu River, on the skirts of the Çile Mountain at the İbrim Sarıoluk Site at the Mernek Plateau and the town of Eber in Çay county of Afyon.
